Thanks for the reply.

I had in /etc/mail/access{.db}

To:.fax                 RELAY
Connect:.fax                    RELAY
milter-link-To:.fax                     SKIP
milter-link-Connect:.fax                        SKIP

and at your suggestion changed this to

To:.fax                 RELAY
Connect:.fax                    RELAY
milter-link-To:.fax                     OK
milter-link-Connect:.fax                        OK

but I get the same problem as before:

I suspect I meant to have "fax" rather than ".fax" as the domain name
in
the "access" file (does it matter?). Even with that change I still get
the TLD reject as above.
